City of Clay Park and Recreation Board

Recent Work:

The Park and Recreation Board worked with engineers in designing the Cosby Lake walking trail and bridges completed in 2011.

The board spent some of the latter half of 2011 designing the playground at Clay City Park.

In early 2012, the board started working on the plans for the practice field at Clay City Park. Decisions were made concerning sod, sprinkler system and more. We hope to have it ready for spring 2012 ball season. A splash pad will be added to the park soon. On hold, but still in the plans, is a BMX track.

Function:
The city of Clay Park and Recreation Board oversees all recreational public facilities in the city, except the Clay Community Center. They make recommendations to the Clay City Council on policies and spending so residents have park facilities that add to the pleasant lifestyle Clay residents already enjoy. The board works closely with Clay's little league sports organization.

The city of Clay now has four parks:
  • The Clay City Park is mostly used for little league athletics.
  • Cosby Lake Park offers picnic areas, fishing and a walking trail.
  • Chalkville Bryant Park offers a soccer field and a small building for public use.
  • A yet unnamed park area is on Trussville Clay Road close to the intersection of Old Springville Road. The city owns a building and woods that are planned for a nature area.

This board welcomes all to come to their public meetings at the Cosby Lake House on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.

Members of this board are:

  • Chairman Ben Thackerson
  • Vice chairman David Feemster
  • Secretary Jeff Cole
  • Ricky Baker
  • Scott Watkins

Councilman Charles Webster is the liaison between the park board and the Clay City Council.
